Well after Yesterdays grumpy mood,( its the raging hormones I swear) I feel obliged to follow up with something a tad more cheerful! inspired by a post on lovely Lucy locket I decided to take some pics of some of the vast number of vintage sparklies that adorn my home.Lovely Gill is collecting vintage glassware to decorate her fireplace with at Christmas, I have done this before and it is very effective, old pieces of pressed glass can be picked up very cheaply, and look lovely especially if placed somewhere where the sunlight catches them, at the moment I have a small collection of glass bottles on my kitchen windowsill.
Another favourite is to use old victorian glass salts to hold tea lights, I pick these up very cheaply and they are so pretty....
But my thing for bling doesnt stop here! I love anything with crystals on, such as these lovely cherub wall lights in the sitting room....
And I drape old paste necklaces and bracelets here and there....
I think vintage glass is vastly under rated, the next time you are thrifting, look at the pressed glass, what else could you use it for? Pile a lovely glass cake stand with satsumas, or soap in the bathroom, replace your practical but not that pretty pets bowls with little glass ones, look for smaller bowls to house pot pourri, or do as Gill is doing and form an eclectic collection of candlesticks and make your life...well just a little bit more sparkly!
Well Halloween came and went, as it does, my sitting room draped in all fashion of spooky tack, and here we are....November, already! is it me or has this year just flown by? Today began as rather dark and dreary, but by lunchtime, the sun was shining, the pavements leading up to School were like a richly coloured carpet of Autumn leaves, and evrything looked as though it was bathed in a sort of mellow golden glow...Lovely! and a great opportunity to spend some time in the garden, before it does get really Chilly!
Well here I am back to blog! I have tidied up,decluttered, finished my paperwork, updated the site...and I feel good! sometimes I just have to get myself organised properly or the wheels just dont turn well, do you know what I mean? How long will it stay this way? I dont know, but for the moment, I am basking in the luxury of amost clear bench tops, plumped up cushions on the sofa, and lavender scented bedding.
I give it a week.....tops.
Well I would love to say that the kitchen is a vision of french shabby loveliness, with cath kidston tea towels draped casually over a chippy painted chair, and freshly picked flowers dancing in an old enamel jug, fairy cakes arranged to perfection on a twinkly glass cake stand...well you get the picture.
But I cant. As usual, its never just a lick of paint, it always ends up a major task,No sooner had I uttered the words "farrow and ball" and the shower sprung a leak, straight through the kitchen ceiling, the plumber came and allegedly sorted it.NOT!. So we are awaiting his return, then it will be the plasterer, and then...we can decorate, dont hold your breath.
Right! Here we go girls...This is our kitchen now.It is going to be redecorated, I have changed my mind around fifty times regarding a colour scheme, I am tired of the green walls now, the cupboards are staying the same,do you think all white is too much? I favour the French/shabby chic sort of theme, then I strayed to a bold floral wallpaper from Cath Kidston(much to hubbys horror) I need help Ladies, please put your opinions forward, direct me to inspirational websites, show me your pics...anything.Before he changes his mind!
