I have been thinking about it for some time, but it is now official...I am giving up my shop, These Foolish Things. I will finally close the doors in May, all my vintage lovelies are going into a secure storage unit, and i shall be working from home again, concentrating on my website mainly, and doing a few vintage fairs.
I feel all at once, sad but relieved.... Having a delightful vintage shop was a dream come true for me, but as many of you know, having been there yourselves, it is hard work, the overheads are astronomical, the winters long and cold, and you are constantly striving for promotion and recognition. So, after a particularly silent and still winter in the shop, I have decided that its time to move on, I am not giving up my business...just the shop, I am planning the big clearout and will do a little every day, but it is going to be a massive operation!
On the plus side, I am looking forward to spending more time at home, spending the entire school holidays with my children, catching up with my crafting and baking, and doing all the things that have been put on hold the past few years. All that being said, I do not regret a moment of my time in the shop, I have met some amazing people and made some wonderful friends.
Everything happens for a reason, doesnt it?
I had the best time yesterday! I was selling at a vintage clothing fair here in Newcastle upon Tyne, which was held at the very beautiful Royal station hotel, It was a lovely day, I met some great like minded people and some people who I have long admired on the internet! check out Jemma from jailhouse frock and Kim from The girl cant help it, It was lovely to finally put a face to their names! I saw a lot of my regular customers, which just thrilled me! Thank you all so much for coming! Happy days!
I am so excited! If by any chance you buy this months edition of the above, Antiques and collectables magazine, and turn to the inside back page... you will find this....
Yes! tis me!(apologies for the not so great scan!) I have a full page spread titled "A day in the life of...These Foolish Things" I really am chuffed, its great publicity for the site and the shop,I would love to be in more mags, fingers crossed for me ladies?
As most of you know I run a small Vintage lifestyle shop here in Sunny(well at the moment) Newcastle upon Tyne, I sell just about everything from Vintage clothing, furniture, linens etc. It is very much a labour of love,I adore buying for the shop and seeing my finds go to other Vintage affecionados,So recently I decided that for promotion purposes and to spread my wings a little,I needed a website.I have been fortunate enough to be introduced to a very clever Chap called Flemming, who for the past few weeks has built me a really cool site! It has been really hard work getting things photographed and uploaded,as well as tending to the store etc. but I am getting there, and hopefully,by the end of this week the site should go live!
I would love my blogging friends to check it out when it is up and running ,so keep checking www.thesefoolishthings.co.uk and please let me know what you think!
I am excited! yes it is 10.45 in the evening and I feel the urge to blog about my latest news.As you all know I have a little vintage shop, for a while now I have been thinking of running a website alongside the shop and finally the wheels are in motion and it is going to happen!!! I have the most amazing designer to build my site,my instincts tell me he is so right for the task! so watch this space, pretty soon I shall have a laptop strapped to my back I am on it so much, but hey ho,thats progess I guess!
This is my humble little shop! I have been closed for a couple of weeks because it had to be totally rewired,it was a nightmare! it is crammed to the rafters with all kinds of everything and it was just impossible to move everything out.Never mind,it is all done and I have been cleaning and getting everything put back in its place! I was so glad to get back to the shop,as much as anything I have people who live in the area who just pop in to say hello,it is very neighbourly and I have missed that. Also I continually buy stock for the shop and my dining room at home was beginning to look rather cluttered!Beware compulsive buyers of vintage lovelies, that was how I ended up with a shop!
