One of the prime factors affecting your designs, that we have found, will be your choice of radiators. A staple in most homes throughout the UK, standard white model can often look out of place with a more styled / themed room. If you are going for a certain look then having these clunky things can certainly throw it off.
There are several options then, to get around this. The most obvious one, though the most expensive one, is to create a showpiece of the radiator. There are some absolutely fantastic designs out there, many with a very individual / quirky feel.
however if you're not going for such a drastic overhaul, the expense can mount up, especially if you have a number of rooms to cover.
Option 2 would be fit radiator covers. These can often blend very well with other furniture in the room, such as storage pieces, with both contemporary and classic looks such as victorian or venetian themed pieces. A good place to have a look and get a feel for the types of radiator cover on offer would be www.radiatorcoversworld.co.uk who have a good selection and also offer a made to measure service if their standard models don't quite fit (and a great charity program on Kiva - particular important if you have older radiators, as these can often vary.
Option 3 would be to completely remove the visiblity of the radiators, rather than simply cover them up. Underfloor heating is a really good idea, especially if space is at a premium, however it is probably the most disruptive of the options, though it provides a really good, seamless look.
Whatever you decide to choose our tip is always do through research before committing and try to visualise as muc as possible, rather than making a decision on a whim - as whichever option you go for can be fairly expensive and time-consuming to reverse!
